In the 23rd of a 32-part series, we are featuring all National Football League teams with a prediction of where each team will finish within their division, key off-season acquisitions and their top fantasy stars. Here are the New Orleans Saints.
Key Off Season Acquisition
The native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland signed a one-year contract worth $13 million with the New Orleans Saints on March 18. This past season, Young shared his time with the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers. He had 25 combined tackles (17 solo tackles and eight assisted tackles), 15 quarterback hits, 7.5 sacks and two pass deflections.
In 2020 with Washington, Young was selected to the Pro Bowl and was the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year. In his award winning season, Young had 44 combined tackles (32 solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles), 10 tackles for a loss, 12 quarterback hits, four pass deflections, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries for 57 yards and one touchdown, and 7.5 sacks. The fumble recovery for a touchdown was for 47 yards and came in a 23-15 Washington win over the San Francisco 49ers on December 13.
It should also be noted that Young was drafted second overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was only selected behind quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals. Young played at Ohio State and Burrow played at Louisiana State.
Fantasy Stars
The Saints do not have anyone selected in the top 10 for any fantasy football position.
Projected Finish
New Orleans will probably not be playoff bound this year. But they don’t appear to be in last place either. The projection at this time is a third place finish. The Saints offense and defense is above average. My projections are they finish behind Atlanta and Tampa Bay, and ahead of Carolina in the NFC South.
