2023 NFL Super Wild Card Saturday Preview: Our Expert Tips & Staking Plan
January 13, 2024
The NFL Playoffs are upon us and we start with two great games from the AFC.
Previews for Sunday and Monday games will be available tomorrow.
Cleveland Browns @ Houston Texans
The Texans are arguably the best story of the playoffs. They have a rookie quarterback, a rookie head coach and have gone on a wonderful run that few predicted. Stroud is an MVP candidate in his first season and the future looks bright in Houston.
The Browns on the other hand have seen countless injuries to their quarterbacks, meaning 38-year-old Joe Flacco is at the helm for this playoff run for Cleveland. While he has played fairly well since coming in for the Browns, if they are going to go on a run here it will be down to their absolutely elite defence. Myles Garrett looks set to finally win Defensive Player of the Year, but he represents perhaps the best unit in the league.
This test for Stroud is a big one, and even at home, it may be too much for him to overcome. I do not expect to see Stroud have an awful game, but I think the Cleveland defence will keep him and the offence at bay enough for Flacco and co to get it done.
Many are predicting lots of points, but I see this one playing out as a bit of a stalemate, woth the Browns edging a close, low-ish scoring affair.

Miami Dolphins @ Kansas City Chiefs
We have seen a lot in the build up to this game about the expected weather. It is going to be below freezing in Kansas City for this game. Many think the Dolphins will not be able to handle those conditions. Personally, I think the Chiefs will come out on top, but it is more about the Dolphins mounting injury list. So many players that play a big role in this team will be on the sidelines and I think that will be too much to overcome.
The Chiefs have been far from the dominant team we have come to know in recent times, but with Travis Kelce getting a week off to rest up, it is likely we see a lot more from the dominant tight end to really help Patrick Mahomes. Rashee Rice has been a bit of a revelation. The wide receiver group has left a lot to be desired but he has really stepped up and showed that he can be a real weapon for them.
When these two teams met in Germany earlier this season it was a scrappy game with the Chiefs coming out on top. I expect the same in these tough conditions. The Dolphins have just come up short almost any time they have faced a decent team and until I see it, I will not trust them to get it done, particularly with so many key players sitting on the sidelines,
