NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS VS GOLD COAST TITANS  – THURSDAY 26 AUGUST, 7:50PM, SUNSHINE COAST STADIUM

We start off the round with a blockbuster with both teams needing a win to secure a spot in the top eight.

A fifth straight win for the Knights would be enough to secure a top-eight finish, but as the odds suggest, this should be a tight affair after Newcastle lost 42-16 to the Titans earlier in April.

Defensively, the Titans have been poor in recent weeks, but when you’re playing quality teams who know how to put points on the board it’s easy to forgive them.

The Titans have covered the line in four of their last five games as the away underdog is certainly worth taking notice of.

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS VS CANBERRA RAIDERS – FRIDAY 27 AUGUST, 6:00PM, BP PRINT STADIUM

If Reece Walsh could’ve got his goal-kicking right last week, the Warriors would be one of four teams locked on 20 points and fighting it out for eighth spot.

The Warriors suffered a 24-22 loss to the Broncos last week, meaning they will need to beat the Raiders and Titans to have any chance – albeit a slim one – at playing finals.

With a poor for and against, the Raiders will likely need to win their remaining two matches to take eighth spot.

The Warriors welcome back Matt Lodge, pushing Jamayne Taunoa-Brown out, while Sean O’Sullivan starts at five-eighth with Chanel Harris-Tavita out and Kodi Nikorima returns on the bench.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS VS SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS – FRIDAY 27 AUGUST, 7:55PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

This is sure to be the match of the round with both teams looking to head into the finals full of confidence.

The Rabbitohs will be looking to bounce back after the Panthers showed them they will have to lift if they’re to beat them in the finals.

The Roosters, meanwhile, have found form when it matters most as they hope to make it seven wins from their last eight games following a demolition job over the Dragons.

Head-to-head, Souths have enjoyed the better part of this matchup recently winning the last two encounters by a whopping combined score of 86-24.

ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS VS NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS – FRIDAY 27 AUGUST, 3:00PM, BROWNE PARK

The Dragons still stand a mathematical chance at making the finals, but their current six-game losing streak means the chances are very slim.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, saw their losing streak build to 10 last week with an embarrassing 32-16 loss to the Eels.

In terms of recent history, these two sides have played out some thrillers over the last few years with overtime required last season before the Dragons won 25-18 back in Round 2.

CRONULLA SHARKS VS BRISBANE BRONCOS – SATURDAY 28 AUGUST, 5:30PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Sharks may have hit form at the right time after a 30-point demolition of the Tigers last week but if they’re any chance of playing finals footy they will have to beat a confident Broncos outfit here.

After an encouraging one-point loss to the Roosters, Kevin Walters’ men picked up where they left off last week with a gutsy two-point win over the Warriors.

The Broncos’ track record against the Sharks is also promising with four wins from their last five meetings.

MELBOURNE STORM VS PARRAMATTA EELS – SATURDAY 28 AUGUST, 7:35PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Parramatta Eels would’ve been relieved to end their losing streak with a win over the Cowboys but it could be short-lived with the Melbourne Storm looking stronger than ever.

Brad Arthur will be hoping last week’s win can help restore confidence in his players ahead of two massive finals previews against Melbourne and Penrith.

The Storm were given a tough challenge by the Titans on Thursday night, going down 10-0 early before fighting back to claim a 34-20 victory.

That result extended Melbourne’s winning streak to 19; no team in NRL history has reached 20.

MANLY SEA EAGLES VS CANTERBURY BULLDOGS – SUNDAY 29 AUGUST, 1:50PM, MORETON DAILY STADIUM

The Sea Eagles showed they are still a team to fear without Turbo as they rallied back from a 12-0 half-time deficit to defeat the Raiders 19-18.

With the top four still in reach, Manly fans can rest easy knowing Turbo is back in the lineup this week after suffering a facial injury.

We’ll keep this one simple, back Manly to cover the line.

PENRITH PANTHERS VS WESTS TIGERS – SUNDAY 29 AUGUST, 4:05PM, MORETON DAILY STADIUM

The Panthers made it three wins on the trot last week with an impressive win over the Bunnies and that will have them full of confidence when they take on a struggling Tigers outfit here.

The Panthers have been installed as -26 point favourites at the line with several key pieces returning to the side.

The Tigers, meanwhile, hold very slim hopes of playing finals after suffering a disappointing 30-point loss to the Sharks last week.
