WESTS TIGERS VS NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS – FRIDAY MAY 14, 6:00PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

Only four points separated the Tigers from the Knights when they met back in March and it would not be surprising if we get another high-scoring thriller again on Thursday night.

Tigers fans would’ve been frustrated with the poor start against the Titans last week but their second half effort was enough to make the score a respectable 36-28.

The Knights, meanwhile, came from behind themselves against the Raiders to snap a two-game skid with a convincing 24-16 win.

They will have have to lift this week with Ponga being ruled out due to an abductor injury.

MANLY SEA EAGLES VS BRISBANE BRONCOS – FRIDAY MAY 14, 8:05PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Manly Sea Eagles will be looking to claim their fifth win in six weeks when they face the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.

The Sea Eagles recorded a gutsy win against the Warriors thanks to a big performance from Tom Trbjoevic and Jason Saab, but they probably haven’t forgotten about their 26-10 loss to Brisbane in the inaugural Magic Round at Suncorp two years ago.

Meanwhile, despite leading for patches, the Broncos were denied in another heartstopper against the Cowboys, keeping them rooted to the bottom four.

Marty Taupau is back for Manly to partner Taniela Paseka, who will need to overcome an HIA to take his place.

CANTERBURY BULLDOGS VS CANBERRA RAIDERS – SATURDAY MAY 15, 3:00PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Canterbury Bulldogs and Canberra Raiders kick off Magic Round’s Saturday triple-header with both teams desperate to notch a much-needed win.

The Raiders have suffered five straight losses, with fadeouts becoming a worrying trend for Ricky Stuart’s men, who have been outscored 93-8 in second halves during their slide.

Injuries have also played a large part for both clubs this year, but there is some reprieve on the Raiders’ front with Jarrod Croker and Josh Hodgson both a chance to play.

As far as trends go, the Raiders have won four straight over the Dogs dating back to 2018.

CRONULLA SHARKS VS SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS – SATURDAY MAY 15, 5:30PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Rabbitohs were trounced 50-0 by the Storm, marking their first goose egg in five years and a severe blow to their premiership credentials given no team has ever won the flag after conceding 50 points in a match.

Meanwhile, the Sharks were beaten 48-0 by the Panthers and have now been outscored 15 tries to one in their last three halves of football.

Josh Dugan is back in the Cronulla centres for the injured Jesse Ramien while Andrew Fifita makes his first appearance of the season off the bench. Crucially for the Rabbitohs, Adam Reynolds is back at halfback, moving Benji Marshall to five-eighth and Dean Hawkins to the reserves. Taane Milne’s inclusion on the wing moves Dane Gagai back to the centres.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS VS NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS – SATURDAY MAY 15, 7:45PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

After coming up well short of the Eels last week, the tri-colours will be eager to bridge the gap between themselves and the Rabbitohs on the ladder, while the Cowboys could also venture closer to the eight with an upset.

These two clubs have been dealt their fair share of injuries throughout the year and things have only gotten worse as far as the Roosters are concerned.

Sydney will now be without Drew Huthison for the foreseeable future, leaving Trent Robinson well short on playmakers this week with Victor Radley also uncertain to play through concussion.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, are starting to return to full health.

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS VS PARRAMATTA EELS – SUNDAY MAY 16, 1:50PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Eels’ impressive season continued with a physical win over an under-strength Roosters last week, while the Warriors scored plenty of points at Lottoland but conceded even more.

A couple of moments of controversy have proven costly for the Eels when it came to naming a team this week, with Dylan Brown and Marata Niukore both taking early pleas for incidents that have overshadowed what was otherwise an impressive win.

The Warriors, meanwhile, are just clinging to eighth, having gone win-loss for most of the year. They welcomed back Chanel Harris-Tavita in round nine with the halfback adding plenty in attack, but coach Nathan Brown is still pondering the best fit for teen prodigy Reece Walsh.

MELBOURNE STORM VS ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS – SUNDAY MAY 16, 4:05PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

Craig Bellamy’s side again looks destined for a Grand Final rematch against the Panthers after scoring a half century last week against the Rabbitohs in a shutout, but the legendary head coach does need to ensure his side doesn’t overlook a Dragons outfit that recorded a big win of its own over the Bulldogs.

The Saints managed a win over the Storm when these two sides met last September, but that was against a half-strength Melbourne outfit resting up for the finals.

Unfortunately for coach Anthony Griffin, his men will now take on a confident Melbourne outfit that is also set to feature star fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen in his return from injury.

GOLD COAST TITANS VS PENRITH PANTHERS – SUNDAY MAY 16, 6:25PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

Gold Coast have shown plenty in attack at times this season but their progress will be well and truly tested by the unforgiving defence of the competition-leading Panthers.

The Titans rank sixth in points scored but Penrith have conceded just 60 points, or 6.66 points per game, with the biggest score against them being 16 points by Manly in round eight.

Gold Coast does have enough on attack to challenge, but when push comes to shove, this looks like a test the Titans aren’t capable of handling right now.
