Dally M hooker of the year Wayde Egan has extended his contract with the New Zealand Warriors until the end of the 2028 NRL season.
The Warriors confirmed on Thursday that Egan, who was off contract at the end of 2027, has signed a new one-year deal, in a statement on the club’s website. The extension means he will spend at least nine seasons with the club.
The 29-year-old was named hooker of the year at last month’s Dally M awards after a superb 2026 campaign.
Egan played 25 of the Warriors’ 26 games this season, averaging 30 tackles a game and posting career-best numbers for try assists (13) and offloads (13), according to the club.
What the Warriors said
“Wayde has been a huge asset for us and is well established as one of the best hookers in the competition,” Warriors general manager of recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden said.
“He loves being with Warriors while his experience is invaluable helping the next generation of hookers coming through our pathways system.”

Head coach Andrew Webster was just as glowing. “Wayde is brilliant, an elite hooker who’s so smart in his all-round game and a player who provides so much in every respect around the club,” Webster said.
“We’ve got a style of play we put around him so he can show his talent. He’s exceptional and a player we’re so happy to see staying at the club.”
Milestones and a club record in reach
Born in Lithgow in New South Wales, Egan made his NRL debut for Penrith in 2018 and played 29 games for the Panthers before joining the Warriors in 2020.
He has now played 175 NRL games, 146 of them for the Warriors, which puts his 150th game for the club and his 200th career game within reach next season.

He is also on track to set a new record for the most appearances by an Australian player for the Warriors. That mark currently sits at 188 games, held by former prop Jacob Lillyman.
The early move gives the Warriors certainty in a key position as clubs reshape their rosters ahead of the 2027 season.
