United States team selected for 2023 Ryder Cup

According to Paul Hodowanic of pgatour.com on Tuesday, the 12 players on the American team for the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, Italy have been selected. They are world number one Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey, world number five Patrick Cantlay of Long Beach, California, world number six Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California, world number seven Max Homa of Burbank, California, world number nine Brian Harman of Savannah, Georgia, world number 10 Wyndham Clark of Denver, Colorado, world number 12 Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Texas, world number 14 Brooks Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida, world number 19 Collin Morikawa of Los Angeles, California, world number 21 Sam Burns of Shreveport, Louisiana, world number 25 Rickie Fowler of Murrieta, California, and world number 26 Justin Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky.
Of the dozen golfers on the American team are seven major champions. Scheffler won the 2022 Masters. Harman won the 2023 British Open. Spieth won the 2015 Masters, 2015 United States Open, and 2017 British Open. Koepka won the 2017 and 2018 United States Open, and 2018, 2019 and 2023 PGA Championship. Clark won the 2023 United States Open. Morikwawa won the 2020 PGA Championship and 2021 British Open. Thomas won the 2017 and 2022 PGA Championship.
Scheffler, Clark, Harman, Cantlay, Homa and Schauffele were chosen based on points. Koepka, Spieth, Morikawa, Burns, Fowler and Thomas were selected by American captain Zach Johnson of Iowa City, Iowa.
There were some notable players not chosen by Johnson. They were world number 17 Cameron Young of Scarborough, New York, world number 18 and 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley of Woodstock, Vermont, world number 20 Tony Finau of Salt Lake City, Utah, world number 28 Russell Henley of Macon, Georgia, world number 29 Kurt Kitayama of Chico, California, world number 30 Lucas Glover of Greenville, South Carolina, and world number 32 Denny McCarthy of Takoma Park, Maryland. The event will take place from September 29 to October 1.
