Wests Tigers have confirmed the signing of Origin and international forward Tyson Frizell for the 2027 NRL season, with the 35-year-old moving from the Newcastle Knights after last week’s grand final.
The club announced the deal on Monday 12 October 2026, describing Frizell as an Origin and international forward who has played 306 NRL games, including his first grand final for Newcastle against the Sydney Roosters in this season’s premiership decider.
Frizell debuted for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 2011 and later played for St George Illawarra and the Knights. The club said his career includes 16 appearances for New South Wales, 14 caps for Australia and three caps for Tonga.

Frizell and Marshall on the move
“I’m really looking forward to joining the Wests Tigers in 2027,” Frizell said in the club statement. “It’s an exciting opportunity for me at this stage of my career and I’m grateful for the chance to be part of what the club and Benji are building. There’s a lot of exciting young talent coming through. I’m hoping I can add some value through my experience and leadership, both on and off the field.”
Head coach Benji Marshall said: “Tyson is the most professional player I’ve ever seen when it comes to preparation. To play the amount of footy he has and still compete at the highest level of the game at his age is a credit to the way he prepares and goes about his business. Tyson will be invaluable in terms of the leadership he will bring to our younger guys. He will show people here what first grade preparation looks like week in, week out. Tyson doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to that kind of stuff.”

According to Zero Tackle’s report of the confirmation, Frizell is in the Tonga World Cup squad and is due back at the Tigers for pre-season at the turn of the year, depending how far Tonga go in the tournament. The Wests Tigers announcement did not specify a multi-year term beyond 2027.
