The Philadelphia 76ers are now going to have to deal with an injury situation to one of their key players. On Thursday, according to Shams Charania of ESPN, 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey of Dallas, Texas injured his hamstring and is expected to miss two weeks.
Maxey was injured in a 110-98 76ers loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. It was a tough game for Maxey defensively, as he was a game worst -16.
So far this season, Maxey is averaging 27.6 points per game, 3.9 assists per game, three rebounds per game. and 1.4 steals per game. He also has a field goal percentage of .406, three point percentage of .286, and a free throw percentage of .822.
Where Maxey sets himself apart from other players in the National Basketball Association is his endurance. In the first seven games this season, Maxey averaged 39.7 minutes per game, which leads the entire NBA.
Last season, Maxey was personally recognized for his strong season in Philadelphia. He was an All-Star for the first time and was recognized with the Most Improved Player Award. In 70 games, Maxey had 25.9 points per game, 6.2 assists per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and one steal per game. He also had a field goal percentage of .450, three point percentage of .373, and a free throw percentage of .868.
Maxey also reached the 50-point plateau thrice last season. He had 50 points in a 137-126 Philadelphia win over the Indiana Pacers on November 12, 51 points in a 127-124 Philadelphia win over the Utah Jazz on February 1, and 52 points in a 133-126 76ers win over the San Antonio Spurs on April 7.Â
There are definite concerns in Philadelphia with their slow start. They have only won one of their first seven games, and star player Joel Embiid was suspended three games this week for shoving a reporter.
