Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 24/4
April 26, 2026
Randwick and Warwick Farm played host to Sydney trials this week. Our analyst has Black Booked four runners that caught the eye.Â
Zealously
The Snowden sprinter looks to be going as well as ever after an effortless 0.5L win in his 1045m Randwick trial. He showed tactical versatility taking a sit behind a tearaway Waterhouse/Bott leader and quickly loomed up at the top of the straight under minimal before going on with it recording the 2nd fastest time of the 7 1050m trials on the morning.Â

Aye Aye Captain
The Les Bridge mare was a real eye-catcher hitting the line hard to finish 0.5L 3rd to Zealously in her 1050m trial. She was slowly away and settled last and a long way off at the top of the straight. McEvoy took inside runs and her final 200m was outstanding closing off strongly. She’s a proven 1st up performer having defeated Diddle Dumpling and Straan Beauty when 1st up last time. She is nearly 18 months between races but looks ready to fire returning from whatever setback she had.Â
Napoleonic
The Hobartville runner-up returned from a short break in impressive fashion covering a lot of ground in his 745m Randwick trial. He was snagged back to the rear holding a really wide line before straightening near to the outside rail. The extra ground didn’t shirk him as he cruised to a 1.9L win under minimal riding. The Queensland carnival looks to likely target where he should find a nice race.
Reserve Bank
The G1 Goodwood winner returned with a real eye-catcher in his 821m Warwick Farm trial. He took up his usual settling position back towards the real before making a great run switching lanes along the inside to charge through the line to finish 0.5L 2nd. He is coming up to 12 months off but looks ready to add to his impressive 9: 5-1-0 career record.
