Well, that took long, folks! It took seven full days to complete Week 12 of the 2020 National Football League regular season. In all, there were games on four separate days, and finally finished Wednesday afternoon with the Pittsburgh Steelers defeating the Baltimore Ravens 19-14. Here are the top five storylines from Week 12 of the NFL season.
5) Falcons upset the Raiders in a blowout. In one of the top surprises on the weekend, the 3-7 Atlanta Falcons beat the 6-4 Las Vegas Raiders 43-6 in a blowout in Georgia. The game was simply not even close, and was a surprise to those formulating the betting line, as the Raiders were three-point road favourites. None of the Falcons had a particularly marvelous contest. The most impressive player was field goal kicker Younghoe Koo, who had five field goals, the last one from 54 yards.
4) Titans move into first place in AFC South. In one of the more intriguing games of the weekend, the Tennessee Titans moved into first place in the AFC South with a record of eight wins and three losses, following a 45-26 win in Indianapolis. Tennessee got revenge, as they lost 34-17 to the Colts on November 12. The top Titans player was running back Derrick Henry, who had 178 yards rushing, and three touchdowns.
3) Suspensions to two Texans. On Monday, the NFL announced that Texans wide receiver Will Fuller and cornerback Bradley Roby had each been suspended six games for violating the NFL’s drug policy. Fuller had enjoyed a fantastic season, as he already this season had career highs in receptions (53), receiving yards (879), and touchdown catches (eight). He became the Texans’ number one receiver after the team traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals in the offseason. Roby meanwhile had 37 tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery for Houston this season.
2) Broncos quarterback situation a nightmare. Due to the fact Broncos backup quarterback Jeff Driskell tested positive for coronavirus, three other Broncos quarterbacks were put at high risk (Blake Bortles, Drew Lock, and Brett Rypien). As a result, all four Broncos quarterbacks were ineligible to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Wide receiver Kendall Hinton was then pressed into duty, and only completed one of 13 passes for 13 yards, and two interceptions. Ironically, Saints quarterback Taysom Hill only had 78 yards himself in the 31-3 Saints win.
1) Tyreek Hill was on fire. In a game for the ages, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill had 13 catches for 269 yards and three touchdowns in the 27-24 Chiefs win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hill now has 13 touchdown catches, which leads the NFL. Hill got off to an amazing start. By the end of the first quarter, he already had two touchdown catches and 203 receiving yards. To put everything into perspective, by the end of the 15 minutes, Hill already had more receiving yards than any other player had in a full game, this season. Kansas City improved to 10-1 with the win, and the Buccaneers dropped to 7-5.
