Top five rookies from Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season

The National Football League has concluded week one. Here are the top five offensive rookies from the first week on winning teams. This season we will include kickers.

5) Bucky Irving–

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie running back from Chicago, Illinois had nine rushes for 62 yards and two catches for 14 yards in a 37-20 Buccaneers win over the Washington Commanders. Irving was the Buccaneers’ fourth pick, 125th overall, out of the University of Oregon.


4) Jake Bates–

The Detroit Lions rookie place kicker from Tomball, Texas made field goals of 25 and 32 yards and two converts, in a 26-20 Lions overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams. Bates, who was undrafted, played his college football at Arkansas.


3) Jalen McMillan–

The native of Fresno, California had one catch for 32 yards and one touchdown in the Buccaneers’s win over the Commanders. McMillan was the Buccaneers’s third round pick, 92nd overall, out of the University of Washington. McMillan’s touchdown catch was 32 yards from Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield five seconds into the fourth quarter.


2) Ladd McConkey–

The native of Chatsworth, Georgia was the Chargers’s second round pick, 34th overall, out of the University of Georgia. In the Chargers’s 22-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, McConkey had five catches for 39 receiving yards and one touchdown. The touchdown was for 10 yards from Justin Herbert and closed out the scoring with three minutes and 40 seconds left in the game.


1) Xavier Worthy–

The native of Fresno, California had a huge night for the Kansas City Chiefs on opening night, in a 27-20 Chiefs win over the Baltimore Ravens. Worthy had two catches for 47 yards and one touchdown, and one rush for 21 yards and another major score. The rushing touchdown was 21 yards and tied the game at seven with five minutes and 55 seconds left in the first quarter. The 35 yard touchdown catch came with 10 minutes and 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter from Patrick Mahomes, and put the Chiefs up 27-17. Worthy, who was the Chiefs’s first round pick, 28th overall, out of the University of Texas, received high praise from Mahomes after the win.
