The FedEx Cup playoffs begin on Thursday with the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. There is a heart advisory in the area and players are considering playing with an umbrella on a regular basis. So players who are used to the southern United States heat are the best players to pick. Here are the three golfers we like the most.
Scottie Scheffler
Yes, I know Scottie Scheffler was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, but he was raised in Dallas, Texas. He is used to playing golf in the sweltering heat. Of his 20 PGA Tour tournament titles, 15 of them have come in the southern United States.
Russell Henley
The world number five is from Macon, Georgia, and will get a lot of state support if he is able to qualify for the Tour Championship, which is based in Atlanta. Henley won the Charles Schwab Challenge in May, as he defeated Eric Cole of Palm Springs, California in a playoff. Ironically, Henley and Scheffler have something in common. Despite their high world ranking (Scheffler is ranked number one), they have only won one tournament each on the PGA Tour in 2026. Scheffler’s win came at the American Express back in January.
Xander Schauffele
The world number nine has had success in Memphis in the past. He had a four round score of -15, and finished in second place at the 2024 St. Jude Championship. The only golfer who posted a better score was Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who won the title with a score of -17.
