Three golfers who could win the 2026 CJ Cup Byron Nelson
May 21, 2026
Scottie Scheffler (X)
The regular season of the PGA Tour returns this week after an exciting PGA Championship won by England’s Aaron Rai. Here are the three golfers we like the most at the 2026 CJ Cup Byron Nelson from Dallas, Texas.
Scottie Scheffler
There is a clear reason why we like the world number one so much this week in Dallas. That is because a year ago he clobbered the field. Scheffler had a winning score of -31. He beat his nearest opponent, Erik van Rooyen of South Africa by eight strokes. It was the third most dominant performance ever at the Byron Nelson tournament. The only two golfers who won the tournament by a wider margin were Americans Byron Nelson (beat Jug McSpaden in 1944) and Sam Snead (beat Bob Inman, Billy Maxwell and Cary Middlecoff in 1957) by 10 strokes each. Scheffler also scored the best ever four round score in the history of the event. The previous record was South Korea’s Kyoung-hoon Lee, who shot a four round score of -26 in 2022.
Kyoung-hoon Lee
Lee not only won the tournament in 2022. He also won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in 2021. In a span of two years (144 holes), Lee had a combined total score of -51.
Jordan Spieth
The three-time major champion finished second to Lee in 2022, as he shot a four round score of -25. This was the same score Lee posted in winning the title in 2021. Yes, Spieth is only ranked 47th. However, Rai was only 44th last week when he won the PGA Championship. Spieth has also made the cut in 11 straight events.
