The Plunge’s Trial Review: Horses You Must Follow From Last Week’s Trials 27/9

An outstanding trial from a horse looking to go into the Everest 1st-up is my horse to follow from the trials and I’ll outline why he can win the feature sprint.

Classique Legend

The 2020 Everest winner looks to have lost nothing after viewing his second trial en route to defend his crown in the 2021 Everest. Regular jockey Kerrin McEvoy partnered him at Randwick and after camping in 4th position on the rail before the turn, the grey blew a field of decent gallopers away by 3L eased down in a matter of 200m. I loved the way he pinned his ears back and extended in trademark fashion along the inside rail. The time of 1.02.21 for the 1050m and 33.42 for the final 600m was sensational as would be expected.

When To Bet

Trainer Les Bridge may be in the midst of pulling off a master stroke sending his gelding to the Everest 1st up but with a record of 3:2-1-0 fresh I think we can expect to see the best of him. The 2nd on his 1st up record was way back when he ran in the 2019 G2 Shorts at Randwick in just his 2nd preparation.

He has enough gate speed to camp just off Eduardo and Nature Strip and will no doubt be finishing stronger than those two especially if they fire each other up over 12oom. Last year he was good enough to blow them away in this race despite racing with no cover. Who knows what type of finish he could produce if things go his way.
