The Plunge’s Trial Review: Horses You Must Follow From Last Week’s Trials 15/8

A top notch sprinter from the Hawkes yard is the horse to follow from this week’s Sydney trials. Previously black booked runner Home Affairs also ran well in his second trial for the preparation.

Masked Crusader

Masked Crusader announced himself as one of the countries best sprinters last preparation when he won the G1 William Reid at The Valley. He looks to have come back in great shape and may have further scope for improvement after an impressive trial win where he made stakes performed gallopers like Shaquero, High Supremacy and Villami look like second raters.

Courtney Van Der Werf settled him at the rear where he raced keen and ended up pulling his way around the field and charged up the outside fence of the straight to win by 2L with his jockey barely moving on him. The fact that he pulled doesn’t concern me too much as he should settle better with an experienced race jockey on board, most likely Tommy Berry.

When To Bet

He will no doubt be set for some of Sydney’s top sprint races. He may of improved the 1-2L needed to compete with the likes of Nature Strip and Classique Legend. The G3 Concorde at Randwick may be the 1st up target.
