The Plunge’s Saturday Review: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 5/3

Forbidden Love’s 2 win in as many weeks gave us respite from what was a tough day at Randwick on Saturday. My horse to follow from the meeting is a European import from the Hawkes yard that seems to be finding his best form.

The Plunge’s Service Results since December 2020:
  • +54.8 units of profit
  • 134 bets: 37 wins/43 placings
  • Profit on Turnover: 15.8%

Zeyrek – Randwick

  • Race: 4
  • Distance: 2000m
  • Class: Listed Randwick City Stakes

Zeyrek is a 5yo European import from the Hawkes yard that looks to be hitting career best form in his 2nd season on Australian soil. His impressive 2.5L victory was the most dominant of any of the feature races on the day. After settling a clear 2nd, he went straight past the well fancied Knight’s Order at the top of the straight and gave nothing else a chance with a powerful finish over the final 200m.

When To Bet

The Hawkes team will no doubt have in mind the fact that their 5yo loves the wet and may be tempted into taking advantage of the predicted rain this week and back him up in the G3 Sky High Stakes at Rosehill next start. If they see him in good enough shape to back up there I think he will be a great bet. Otherwise, they may look to Slipper Day in a fortnight where the G3 Queen’s Cup over 2400m looks the obvious option. The G1 Ranvet on the same day may also be on the radar if they want to stay at 2000m and really test their gelding against some of the best middle horses in the country.
