The Plunge’s Saturday Review: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 19/12

5 years ago - Sportingbase The Plunge’s Saturday Review: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 19/12 Image
A strong track bias made it hard to make considerable ground on Saturday but The Plunge has found three horses you should follow to their next run.

Edison and Hilo

  • Race 8
  • Distance 1400m
  • Class Open Handicap

After running 1st and 2nd in the strongest race of the day it’s no secret that this pair will be horses to keep an eye on over the summer. Edison pulled off another gutsy win in a tough 1400m race in the wet. There’s just so much to like about how this horse races, he makes his own luck and seems to find another gear when challenged over the final furlong.

Where To Next – Edison

Bjorn Baker has his eye on the Magic Millions carnival for Edison but just wants to see how he pulls up after his 4th run this preparation. He will be a serious contender in any race up there.

Fans of Hilo should not be disappointed with his second behind Edison. He sat just behind the winner in the run, tracked up nicely and got within a length at the 300m but Edison was a touch too strong over the final furlong. It should be noted that Hilo had been freshened and had not raced for 5 weeks. We’ve seen in the past that when both fully fit there’s not a lot between the two so expect Hilo to be a length or two better next start.

Where To Next – Hilo

Hilo is not a Magic Millions horse so we should look for him to maybe run in the Maroubra Mile (BM100) at Kensington in a fortnight. There will be slight question marks over his ability to run a strong 1550m but he will definitely be the class in that field.

Cisco Bay

  • Race 5
  • Distance 1600m
  • Class BM 78

There’s no doubt that for at least the first half of the card Saturday that there were serious advantages for on-pace runners. Cisco Bay defied that after settling at the rear, beginning her run 3 wide and storming home to finish third. The Nowra Cup winner gave windburn to the heavily backed odds-on favourite Fulmina at the 300m mark.

Where To Next

Punters should take note of Cisco Bay’s superior wet track form (13:7-1-2) compared to dry tracks (18:1-5-4). The fact that he won the Nowra Cup on a good track the start before shows he is in career best form. He will definitely appreciate another step up in distance. There is a BM 78 over 1800m in 3 weeks time that looks perfect. Otherwise connections may consider the G3 Summer Cup at Randwick next weekend, particularly with the predicted rain forecasted.
