The Plunge’s Black Book: Horses Running At Rosehill 3/4

The Rosehill autumn carnival concludes with Tancred Stakes Day where many of the nation’s top stayers will contest the 2400m G1 event. On what looks like a tricky day of punting, I’ve found a Snowden sprinter that has been trialling the house down that represents great value and a Hawkes 5yo with undefeated 2nd up stats that is looking to earn a start in the Doncaster.

Rosehill Race 5 – Signore Fox

Signore Fox steps out 1st up in an open G3 Star Kingdom Stakes after 3 impressive trial performances. He won his first trial at Canterbury but it was his 2nd trial at Randwick on March 11 that suggested he is flying this time in.

With McDonald on board he settled midfield and when given a squeeze at the top of the straight he slid straight across the inside rail to blow his rivals away by 1.5L under minimal pressure.

I like the fact the Snowden’s have given him 3 trials in the lead up for this and also that McDonald is sticking. He wasn’t far away in this grade of G3 sprints last preparation. I believe the lack of class in this race and the improvement he has shown at the trials makes him a great bet at the double figure odds.

Tip: 2 Units Win Signore Fox @$10

Rosehill Race 8 – Rock

This year’s Doncaster Prelude is a great race with many top chances. Two of my black book runners shape up here; Rock and Subedar and I have found it difficult to split them.

Subedar is a talented grey gelding that the Cummings yard that has been set for this race through some interesting lead ups, winning the last two.

Rock however was outstanding last start on a day where horses struggled to make up ground, the Hawkes 5yo rattled home from back in the field to finish 3rd behind I Am Superman and Think It Over. He is undefeated from three 2nd up runs and this looks like a target race.

I am leaning towards Rock with the great 2nd up record and barrier 5. With the rail out 6m I think he will settle a little closer than Subedar and I expect I may be difficult to make ground late.

Tip: 2 Units Win Rock @$4.5With TopSport
