Swats That prepared for Lightning challenge
February 11, 2021
3-year-old filly Swats That is set to take on the red hot Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes on Saturday.
The Leon & Troy Corstens trained galloper comes into Saturday’s assignment first-up and the stable are under no illusion that it is a big step up for the filly.
“We are going in with our eyes open and we know how much she has to step up to be competitive,” said Troy Corstens on RSN 927 earlier today.
“She’s definitely made improvement, she’s much more sensible now and she does things correctly and she’s an absolute pleasure to train.”
Swats That had a successful Spring campaign finishing no further back than second in her four starts including a placing behind September Run in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
September Run stands in her way again this weekend whilst Corstens is hoping his filly has improved enough to be highly competitive with the Coolmore winner.
“If we are competitive and can run with September Run and finish near her or better we’ll be absolutely ecstatic.”
The 3-year-old filly will have Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jye McNeil on board and will jump from barrier 8 which holds no concerns from Corstens.
“I think down the outside rail is usually the place to be, it’s going to be interesting to see where she gets to in the run
“I’d like to be quite close up to Nature Strip if we could not be too far away, we’ll be just behind that lead pack but not too far away.”
Looking ahead to her Autumn campaign there are no set plans in place. Connections will assess all options after Saturday’s run to see whether she is up to Group 1 WFA company.
“It’ll purely depend on how she goes on Saturday, and then we’ll plot a course after that
“Absolutely no plans whatsoever.”
Swats That is currently a $12.00 chance on TopSport.
