Stephen Curry sets NBA record for most three-pointers all-time in regular season and playoffs
November 16, 2021
The record-breaking accomplishments for Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry of Akron, Ohio, are continuing. After becoming the oldest player in NBA history to record 50 points and 10 assists in a single game last week in a 127-113 Golden State win over the Atlanta Hawks, Curry set the NBA record for most three-point shots made ever in the regular season and playoffs in a 119-93 win over the Chicago Bulls on Friday from the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
Curry made NBA history with his second three-pointer of the night. It came one minute and 16 seconds into the second quarter on a 26 foot jump shot from a pass by Andre Iguodala. At the time of the historic shot, the Warriors pulled within five shots of the Chicago Bulls, but still trailed 31-26.
Curry’s record-breaking shot was the 3359th three-point shot he has made if you count the regular season and playoffs. Curry finished up with nine three-pointers on Friday, and then made three-point shots on Sunday in a 106-102 Warriors loss to the Charlotte Hornets. Curry now has 3369 three-point shots made in his NBA career if you include the regular season and postseason.
The former record belonged to Ray Allen of Merced, California. Allen had 3358 three-pointers with the Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle Supersonics, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat from 1996 to 2014. One should also realize that Allen, who was a shooting guard, had 3358 three-pointers in 1371 games. Curry now has made 3369 three-pointers in 887 games, a total of 484 fewer games than Allen.
Allen holds the NBA record for most three-points made in the regular season with 2973. Curry is currently second with 2899. Curry meanwhile is the post-season leader all-time in three-points made with 470. LeBron James is second on the list with 432.
