South Sydney now expect Latrell Mitchell to miss the rest of the 2026 NRL season with recurring nerves injuries, though the Rabbitohs superstar is seeing a neurologist in a desperate bid to overcome the issues.
Right now, Mitchell is a week to week proposition after originally hoping to come back midway through the State of Origin series.

He first injured his lower back before South’s Round 9 clash with the Knights and was sidelined for several weeks, before disaster struck with a calf injury in training just before he returned a month later.
The panic in Redfern was first reported by the Sydney Morning Herald earlier.
The whole affair only adds to what has been an injury-clouded few years for the 29-year-old. He managed just 11 games in each of the last two seasons, and would have clocked up nine in 2026 if he doesn’t play again.
Latrell had been aiming to return in Round 23. That’s now unlikely – and, unfortunately, he’s joined in the recovery ward by Cameron Murray.
Murray was shockingly ruled out today, and will miss a month of football.
The New South Wales hero hurt himself in the game against the Raiders last weekend but played for another 20 minutes. He’s now facing a three week recovery (at best) for the calf issue.
