We know the Oklahoma City Thunder already have an unbelievable superstar. Now Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is in the record books.

On Thursday the Canadian point guard set the NBA record for the most consecutive games with 20 points or more. He extended his remarkable streak in a 104-102 win over the Boston Celtics by scoring 35 points. Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario, and who was raised in nearby Hamilton, Ontario, has now scored at least 20 points in a record 127 straight games. Gilgeous-Alexander’s record started on November 1, 2024 in a 137-114 Thunder win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

The old record belonged to Wilt Chamberlain of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who we consider as the second best basketball player ever. Chamberlain played 126 straight games with a minimum of 20 points from October 19, 1961 to January 19, 1963. Chamberlain’s streak lasted a remarkable 63 years. During the streak, Chamberlain played for the Philadelphia Warriors and then the San Francisco Warriors at the center position.

This was also a massive win for the Thunder. Oklahoma City won a very tight basketball game as they defeated the Boston Celtics 104-102. The Celtics are a very formidable opponent. Boston is second in the Eastern Conference with a record of 43 wins and 23 losses.

Also in the win by the Thunder over the Celtics, Gilgeous-Alexander had nine assists, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals, and was a +14. He made 13 of 18 field goals, two of five three-point shots and seven of eight free throws. Gilgeous-Alexander set the record on a 20 foot jump shot with four minutes and 56 seconds into the second half. At the time, the Thunder tied the game at 69.

For the season, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.8 points per game, 6.6 assists per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 1.4 steals per game. He has a field goal percentage of .554, three point percentage of .383 and a field goal percentage of .895.

The Thunder have won seven straight games and have the best record in the NBA. They are at 52 wins and 15 losses.
