Rosehill Preview: Star Colt Golden Mile Is Back

The return of James Cummings’ brilliant three-year-old colt Golden Mile in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200 metres) at highlights a strong program at Rosehill.

Golden Mile proved he was in the upper echelon of his age group last spring with a win in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty at Rosehill and also at his last two starts in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and then the Group 2 Callender-Presnell at Randwick.

History is on Golden Mile’s side as eight of the last nine Expressway Stakes winners have been first-up from a spell.

Also three-year-olds have won three of the past five editions of it. James Cummings has also won two of the past four editions with Alizee (2019) and Savatiano (2021).

Cummings is aiming Golden Mile at either the Australian Guineas or the Randwick Guineas and the Doncaster Mile.

TopSport has Golden Mile as a $2.25 favourite with Forbidden Love a $3.20 second favourite.

Other features on the day include the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100 metres colts and geldings) where the Golden Slipper Stakes favourite, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained King’s Gambit steps out.

King’s Gambit has had one start for an easy win at Caulfield in October.
TopSport has King’s Gambit as a $1.30 favourite.
