Roosters preparing to hand Walker richest deal in club’s history

The Sydney Roosters are now preparing to offer Sam Walker a $13.5 million deal that would see the 24-year-old signed through to 2037 as the tricolours’ long-term halfback.

Walker is a free agent from the November 1 deadline, which leaves Sydney around three months to hash out major contract details with their No.7.

The Daily Telegraph has reported Nick Politis, the billionaire head honcho in Bondi, has been raving about Walker and is happy to back up the truck if it means the halfback sees out his career with the Roosters.

That love has only grown in Sydney after Walker debuted for Queensland this season and looks to have won the state No.7 jersey.

He’s already earning around $1 million a season on his current deal.

From the other side, Walker is reportedly “open-minded” about a deal that long, which would take him through to past his 34th birthday and mean he’s playing out of Moore Park for his entire NRL career.

It’s not the first time a club has struck a decade-long deal, either, with the Cowboys signing Jason Taumalolo on a 10-year bargain in 2027.

Tino Fa’asuamaleaui (Titans) and Dylan Brown (Knights) are tied up to 2033 and 2036, though the former has “get out” clauses he can activate. Daly Cherry-Evans also signed with Manly from 2015–2025.

“I am locked into the Roosters,” Walker said recently. “I love the club there and I am fully committed to the Roosters at the moment. The way they have embraced my family was huge, it’s such a family-first club. I was a Roosters fan as a kid, so I’ve been happy with my decision ever since.”

“Sam’s preference is to stay at the Roosters and we’re hoping we can do a long-term deal there,” Walker’s agent Clinton Schifcofske added.

“Sam has done a few two-year deals. This time he wants a long-term deal.”
