Josh Byrnes (X)
The Colorado Rockies have named Josh Byrnes as their new general manager according to Jack Lowenstein of CBS Colorado. Byrnes takes over a franchise that has simply been terrible in recent years. Colorado has been last in the National League West the last four seasons. In that time, they have a record of 231 wins and 417 losses in 648 games for a winning percentage  of .356. Byrnes takes over from Bill Schmidt of Anaheim, California, who had the role as Rockies general manager since 2021.
Byrnes has been a general manager before. He was with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2005 to 2010. Byrnes had a record of 349 wins and 378 losses with Arizona. He was then with the San Diego Padres, where he had a record of 184 wins and 215 losses from 2011 to 2014.
This is Byrnes’s second time with the Rockies. He was initially with them from 2000 to 2002. In that time he was the Rockies assistant general manager. Byrnes worked under Dan O’Dowd of Montville, New Jersey, and was responsible for the Rockies farm and scouting departments.
Over the last two decades, Byrnes has also been with three other organizations. They have been the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
While with the Indians, Byrnes was an advanced scout and scouting director from 1994 to 1999. While with the Red Sox from 2003 to 2004, Byrnes was Boston’s assistant general manager. In Byrnes’s second season, Boston won the World Series, the Red Sox’s first title since 1918. Boston beat the St. Louis Cardinals in a four game sweep. Then from 2014 to 2025, Byrnes was with the Dodgers. He had the role senior vice president and won three more World Series.
