Savvy Hallie will run in The Everest, with racing journalist Chris Roots reporting the Brad Widdup-trained mare will take Mulberry Racing’s slot in the $20 million sprint at Royal Randwick on October 17.
Racing and Sports broke the news on Monday 5 October, and Punters.com.au also reported that the four-year-old has secured a place in the field after her second to Tempted on Saturday.
“Savvy Hallie will run in Mulberry’s Everest slot,” Roots posted on X.
Runner-up to Tempted
Savvy Hallie was beaten three lengths by Tempted in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday 3 October, starting at $17, with Marhoona a nose away third, as TSB reported from the Premiere Stakes.
Three weeks earlier she led all the way to win the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on 12 September, holding off Gangsta Granny by a neck at $20, Just Horse Racing reported. Her time of 1:08.85 was 0.05 seconds outside the race record.
“She is definitely a Group 1 horse, we’ve got to try and win them now,” Widdup said after that win.
Mulberry’s second Everest
Mulberry Racing joined The Everest slot holders last year and ran Widdup’s Jedibeel in 2025. Racing NSW reported before the spring that Jedibeel would not be back in the slot this year after throat surgery.
Widdup was careful about The Everest at the time. “The Everest, you never say never,” he told Racing NSW. “We’d like to dream we might be able to get to an Everest but there are options for her and she’d have to be going very well to get there.”
Nash Rawiller, who rode her to the Sheraco win, said then he rated her a Group 1 mare. “This is a mare that I think can definitely measure (up) to that level going forward,” Rawiller said.
What happens next
The Everest is run over 1200m at Royal Randwick on Saturday, October 17, with final declarations closing at 10am on Tuesday, October 13. Savvy Hallie is set to meet Tempted again, along with Hong Kong champion Ka Ying Rising. Our Everest field guide has where every slot stands.
