RACING: Randwick Best Selection & Value Play 18/4

The 3rd and final day of the Championships will be headlined by a cracking G1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick. Our analyst likes a smart Snowden filly getting big map upside and a Waller colt that looks set to peak over an ideal trip in the feature.

Best Selection: R4- Plaintiff

The opening $2.5 quote for Plaintiff was a gift before she was smashed into $1.75. Her win in the PJ Bell took her career record to 4/4 but it was the manner in which she did it that suggests she is well above average. She was forced to go back to the rear from the outside gate in the field of 17 and still covered ground travelling 3-wide with cover. She found herself on the outside of a wall of 11 horses on the point of the turn and still managed to amble up under minimal riding before being unleashed from the 300m to score a 0.4L win.

She gets big map upside in this jumping from Gate 7, which will give Childs options on settling. The extra 2kg of weight seems very manageable against a very similar field that she toyed with. It’s hard to say whether she gets back out in price but anything close to $2 is enough.

Value Selection: R9- Beiwacht

Beiwacht ticks a few boxes in what is a wide-open G1 All Aged Stakes. He’s dropping back from 1500m a month between runs with a sharp trial in between. His 0.5L 2nd to Joliestar in the G1 Canterbury Stakes 2 starts back is good enough to win this. The map looks a real positive where he should be able to control in a race where Royal Patronage 1st up looks the only potential challenger for the lead. The +7m rail can only help his cause making the $7.5 on offer looks great value.
