Sydney Autumn racing heats up with in running of the running of the G2 Apollo and Expressway Stakes. Our analyst likes a proven G1 sprinter and has picked out a Ron Quinton mare returning on the back of a nice trial win as the value play.Â

Best Selection: R7- Joliestar
The Waller mare returns as a seasoned 5yo mare. She settled last and was an impressive 1.1L winner of the G2 Shorts when 1st up in the spring. She brings an impressive 6: 4-1-1 1st up record. Jumping from Gate 6 in the small field of 7 is a concern but she has been proven getting back from wide gates in the past. The expansive Randwick straight will give her plenty of time to get to the outside and work through her gears. The ultimate guide is J Mac picking her ahead of Lady Shenandoah and Angel Capital.

Value Selection: R2- Rantan
Rantan comes off a stylish 3L 902m Canterbury trial win 1st up into this Midway. She settled in behind the undefeated Bev’s Nine and ambled up to him and the turn before powering away under hands and heels riding. The 54.54s time was quick for the morning. She looks to have come back in great order. Gate 16 is a worry but there is only one turn to navigate over the Randwick 1000m. If Parr can secure some cover without going right back to the rear over the first 400m, expect her to be getting there late.Â
