RACING: Australia’s $5.6 Million Filly Returns as Spring Targets Revealed

Australia’s most expensive race filly is back in work, with Chayan beginning preparations for what connections hope will be a huge spring carnival after her record-breaking $5.6 million sale earlier this year.

The Group 2 Reisling Stakes winner has returned to training with Sydney’s prestigious Princess Series looming as the first major objective of her four-year-old campaign.

Purchased by Coolmore for a record $5.6 million at the 2026 Inglis Chairman’s Sale, Chayan became the most expensive horse ever sold at the auction after an extraordinary bidding duel. The daughter of I Am Invincible had already established herself as one of Australia’s elite fillies, highlighted by her victory in the Reisling Stakes before starting favourite for the Golden Slipper.

Trainer Annabel Archibald confirmed Chayan has returned to work in excellent order and is on track to resume during the Sydney spring carnival.

Speaking about the filly’s progress, Archibald said she had returned stronger after her spell and the stable was looking forward to seeing her as a four-year-old.

“She’s come back really well,” Annabel Archibald said.

“The Princess Series is the plan at this stage.”

The Princess Series offers some of Sydney’s biggest races for mares and four-year-olds, providing an ideal platform before connections decide whether to chase even bigger Group 1 targets later in the carnival.

There will be plenty of interest in how Chayan returns.

Despite already having outstanding racetrack credentials, her record sale price means every run will be closely watched as Coolmore looks to enhance both her racing résumé and long-term broodmare value.

Few horses carry the expectations Chayan now does.

Her sale placed her among the most valuable fillies ever sold in the Southern Hemisphere, reflecting not only her race performances but also the enormous commercial value attached to her pedigree.

If she can return to the form that made her one of Australia’s leading two and three-year-olds, Chayan could quickly justify that investment.

The spring carnival now shapes as the next chapter in one of Australian racing’s most closely followed stories.
