Peter Skoronski of Park Ridge, Illinois became the highest paid National Football League guard on Friday according to FOX Sports on Sunday. Skoronski signed a four-year contract worth $100 million of which $88 million is guaranteed.
The previous highest paid guards in the NFL were Tyler Smith of Fort Worth, Texas and Canadian Matthew Bergeron of Victoriaville, Quebec. Smith is with the Dallas Cowboys and Bergeron is with the Atlanta Falcons. They both have signed four year contracts worth $96 million, and are making $24 million per year.
Skoronski has been with the Titans for the last three years. He is currently at 6’4″, 315 pounds. This past season, Skoronski recorded his first career fumble recovery. It came in a 25-3 Titans loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 30.
Originally, the first round pick, 11th overall, in the 2023 NFL Draft, Skoronski played his college football at Northwestern University. He was the third highest drafted NFL offensive lineman from the 2023 NFL Draft. The only two offensive lineman drafted ahead of Smith were Paris Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals (sixth overall) and Darnell Wright of the Chicago Bears (10th overall). Wright made NFL headlines this past week as he became the richest right tackle in NFL history.
The Titans have spent a lot of money in the offseason. They made Jeffery Simmons the highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history when they came to terms on a three-year deal worth $105.8 million (since been passed by Jalen Carter). Tennessee also signed free agent defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers of Los Angeles, California to a three-year contract worth $63 million.
