PERICLES SET TO SWOOP
November 3, 2023
JAMES Cummings has admitted to having a degree of confidence regarding Pericles’ chances in the Golden Eagle at Rosehill on Saturday.
Cummings believes Pericles from barrier one should be able to get a soft run and that could be the deciding factor.

“He showed he still had the versatility to do it from the front,” Cummings said.
“From that barrier, he can get run-of-the-race stuff and be produced at the right time.”
“There’s a bit of confidence about the way Pericles is going.”
Cummings was encouraged by Pericles’ third in the Silver Eagle over 1300 metres after he missed starting in the Epsom.
“I had to drop him back to 1,300m in the Silver Eagle, which was not to his liking,” Cummings said on SEN.
“I thought his run was excellent up on top of the speed, still fighting on at the finish.”
“Obviously not his best run for the prep, but I did admire the way the horse went about things in the Tramway.”
The stable will also be represented by Golden Mile who finished third in the Epsom before he finished ninth in the King Charles Stakes.
Cummings though the placing in the Epsom was the best runs of Golden Mile’s career as he had to do it tough out in front with a big weight.
“He just got involved in a speed battle in the King Charles, which was not ideal.”
“I think he could have finished closer had that not unfolded.”
Cummings pointed out Golden Mile won the Group 2 Theo Marks three starts ago at Rosehill.
“I can’t say there’s much difference about the way my two horses have trained, but perhaps a leaning towards Pericles with a soft run in transit before getting into the clear and looming up like a serious threat.”
Pericles is $9.50 and Golden Mile is $34 with PlayUp.
