Pelicans point guard Jose Alvarado out three weeks with hamstring injury

According to the Associated Press on Tuesday, New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jose Alvarado of Brooklyn, New York has a left hamstring strain. He is projected to be out the next three weeks as a minimum. At that time, Alvarado will be re-evaluated.
Alvarado has had a strong start to the 2024-25 National Basketball Association regular season. He had career highs in points per game (10.7), assists per game (4.5), steals per game (1.5), three point percentage (.400), and free throw percentage (.824). Alvarado also averaged 2.2 rebounds per game, and had a field goal percentage of .396.
The hamstring strain happened on Monday in a 107-105 Pelicans loss to the Brooklyn Nets at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Pelicans had a chance to win the game with four seconds left, but Javonte Green missed a three point attempt from 27 feet. In 18 minutes and 20 seconds of action, Alvarado had three points and one steal prior to the injury. The field goal made was from 23 feet and tied the game at 65 with three minutes and three seconds into the second half.
On December 4, 2022, Alvarado made NBA history. In a 121-106 Pelicans win over the Denver Nuggets, he set the NBA record for most points in a game by an undrafted player coming off the bench (38). So far this season, Alvarado has started seven of 11 games, including Monday night’s loss.
In the two games prior to Monday. Alvarado was shooting the basketball well. He had 27 points in a 131-122 Pelicans loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on November 6, and 21 points in a 115-88 Pelicans loss to the Orlando Magic on November 8.
