Panthers trade wide receiver Robbie Anderson to the Cardinals
October 18, 2022
The Carolina Panthers traded wide receiver Robbie Anderson of Teaneck, New Jersey on Monday according to the Associated Press. In exchange, the Panthers will receive either a sixth round pick in the 2024 National Football League Draft or a seventh round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Cardinals become Anderson’s third National Football League team after he spent four seasons with the New York Jets from 2016 to 2019, and three seasons with the Panthers from 2020 to 2022. In six games this season, Anderson had 13 catches for 206 yards and one touchdown. The major score was a 75-yard reception from Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield on the opening weekend on September 11, in a 26-24 Panthers loss to the Cleveland Browns.

There was a belief that the Panthers would get better this season. However with a record of one win and five losses, they have the worst record in the NFL, and the lowest winning percentage of all 32 teams at .167.
Last week the Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule and replaced him with Steve Wilks. It is interesting that Wilks has a connection to the Cardinals as he was Arizona’s head coach in 2018.
For anyone who watched the Panthers game against the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, the trade should have come as no surprise. That is because Anderson was seen in a heated exchange with Panthers wide receivers coach Joe Dailey in the first quarter. Then before the start of the fourth quarter, Wilks sent Anderson to the locker room. In the 24-10 Panthers loss to the Rams, Anderson did not have one reception.
