According to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors, San Diego Padres outfielder Ramon Laureano of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic will likely be out for the remainder of the 2026 Major League Baseball season. Laureano had hip surgery on Friday and is likely to be out four to five months. There is a possibility that Laureano could return to the Padres for the playoffs. The Padres are currently tied with the surprising Washington Nationals and Arizona Diamondbacks for the final wildcard spot in the National League. San Diego’s record is 34 wins and 32 losses for a winning percentage of .515.
Laureano has reportedly been dealing with a hip ailment for a while. He missed over two weeks during the 2021 MLB season with a hip strain while playing for the Oakland Athletics.
It has been a tale of two seasons for Laureano in 2026. In the first 19 games of the season, Laureano was batting .288 with an impressive seven game hitting streak. However, since April 19, Laureano only has 16 hits in 109 at bats for a poor batting average of .147.
During the 2026 MLB season, Laureano is batting .203 with seven home runs and 21 runs batted in, While playing in 53 games, 182 at bats and 206 plate appearances, he scored 23 runs and had 37 hits, six doubles, two triples, seven stolen bases, 20 walks, 68 total bases, and two sacrifice flies with an on base percentage of .286 and a slugging percentage of .374.
The two triples and two sacrifice flies came in Padres wins. The triples came in a 4-1 Padres win over the Seattle Mariners on April 14 and in a 10-8 Padres win over the Colorado Rockies on April 23.
