The first round of the 2024 British Open gets underway on Thursday from the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The course is 30 kilometres east of Edinburgh, and been the host course of the Scottish Open since 2019. Here are the three golfers we like the most this year.

The world number two from Holywood, Northern Ireland is the defending champion at the Scottish Open. Last year, McIlroy posted a score of -15 to beat the 2024 Canadian Open champion Robert MacIntyre of Scotland by a stroke. At the 2024 United States Open last month, McIlroy missed two short putts down the stretch, and lost to Bryson DeChambeau.
