Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 1/3

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s G1 Verry Elleegant Stakes day at Randwick. Our analyst has found a 2yo that was desperately unlucky in the Skyline, a Waterhouse/Bott gelding that looks ready to fire over 1400m 2nd up and an exciting Waller staying import.

Les Vampires

Found the lead over 1200m and looked totally gone when headed at the 300m and even faded to 1.5L away. He rallied hard the final 200m to only go down by 0.2L in 3rd place. He looks to be going well after the gelding and I’d love to be with him stepping up to 1400m in a race he can get a soft lead.

Skyhook

The Ryan & Alexiou 2yo should have won the G2 Skyline. He was badly interferred with at the top of the straight when Shaggy laid in and took his run. McEvoy was forced to take another run in the inferior going to the fence. He charged through the line to finish 0.1L 2nd. The time for that race was 0.48 seconds than the fillies, which is a concern, but they did go significantly slower over the first 600m. He likely misses the Slipper now but should be winning something easier.

Birdman

Keen to stick with the Waller staying import. He settled midfield and started his run at the 500m before finding himself very wide on the turn. He knuckled down to finish 1.4L 2nd to a rock hard fit horse that enjoyed a slightly easier run. I expect him to improve sharply 3rd up and will appreciate another step up in trip.
