Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Kembla 24/11

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s Gong meeting at Kembla. Our analyst has black booked a European staying import that looks destined for black type races and a big feature winner that looks set for a massive autumn.

Gilded Water

The Maher trained European staying import arrived for his Aus debut with a lot of hype around him being owned by the King. He lived up to it settling behind a hot tempo and wearing down a game Alcalance to win by 0.5L.

There should be plenty of upside to him as he settles into Australian racing. It was a tough 2000m the way the race was run and I thought he was entitled to throw in the towel but it looked like pure class got him over the line. He has the makings of a future black type winner.

Gringotts

He likely ended his spring campaign with an impressive 0.8L all the way victory in the Gong afer being smashed in the betting late. It was impressive that he was able to find another gear when challenged at the 200m, a sign of a classy horse.

After a successful prep he is anything but a hidden gem but I will be keen to follow him towards bigger things in the autumn. His benchmark rating and weight will have to be considered but I do feel he could be a Doncaster type.
