Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Caulfield 14/10
October 18, 2023
Our analyst has reviewed the sectional times, ratings & replays from last Saturday’s Caulfield meeting & has placed four horses you must follow in our black book below.
EXCESS
Great effort from Lofty Strike’s sister to be beaten in the final stride by a smart filly in Sheva at only her second start. She showed great speed to lead and although she wanted to lay-out she kept on fighting on in the straight. She’s got a big future.
CHAIN OF LIGHTNING
She did the chasing behind the flying Asfoora and Uncommon James and stuck to her guns to finish third. She was strong to the line and the step out to 1200 metres and further will be right up her alley for the rest of her campaign.
VOW AND DECLARE
The gifted veteran stayer still has a lot to offer judging by his second behind Alligator Blood. He relished the fast speed and was the best chaser of Alligator Blood to the line. He’s heading to the Moonee Valley Cup for his next start which will decide whether he’s back for another Melbourne Cup.
VERDAD
Robbie Griffiths and Matt De Kock have an exciting prospect in this gelding who should have finished closer than sixth in the Caulfield Guineas as he was checked in the closing stages. He finished on strongly after the line which says he’ll relish further than 1600m.
