Opinion: Vikings signing of linebacker Jamal Adams could be very beneficial

Normally, I do not highlight defensive players signing contracts of $1.2 million in late July. However, the signing of Jamal Adams by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday is very noteworthy. That is because the Vikings acquired an experienced defender who can continue to be extremely effective at the age of 30. Due to the fact the Vikings signed Adams at a low price, they should have enough wiggle room to find a replacement if the Adams signing does not work out.

Adams is joining his sixth team over the last decade. He previously played three seasons with the New York Jets (2017 to 2019), four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2020 to 2023), part of one season with the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions (2024), and one season with the Las Vegas Raiders (2025).

This past season with the Raiders, Adams had 45 combined tackles (30 solo tackles and 15 assisted tackles), five tackles for a loss, two quarterback hits, one forced fumble and one sack. The forced fumble came in a 14-12 Raiders win over the Kansas City Chiefs on January 4.

Adams was selected to the Pro Bowl for three straight years. He was honoured with the Jets in 2018 and 2019, and the Seahawks in 2020. In this three-year time period, Adams had 273 combined tackles (206 solo tackles and 67 assisted tackles), 30 tackles for a loss, 35 quarterback hits, two interceptions for 99 yards, one pick six, 22 pass deflections, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries for 30 yards and 19.5 sacks.
