Opinion: 76ers should play LeBron at shooting guard or power forward

The biggest news in the NBA during the offseason is that LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, will end his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers. Now we will know where LeBron will be playing on the court. The position is point guard according to Rogers Sportsnet.

One must realize that LeBron is unique. He has played everywhere on the basketball court throughout his career and been very effective. That is reason #1356 he is in the conversation as one of the greatest basketball players of all-time.

When you go to Basketball Reference, and see the positions that James has played throughout his career, they list all five positions. Historically, when you play fantasy basketball on Yahoo! Sports, and check to see what position LeBron is, every position is mentioned. He is that valuable and versatile.

So, that is one reason why it was a little strange this week when the 76ers announced that James would play point guard. Last season, Tyrese Maxey played 2661 minutes there last year and was very effective. He averaged 28.3 points per game and 6.6 assists per game.

Basically what I am getting at is 76ers head coach Nick Nurse should think things through further where to play LeBron. One general concern is that when you have a stacked team like the 76ers, and if you play players outside of the comfort zone, you may run into trouble. In my opinion, the 76ers should keep Joel Embiid at center, Jaylen Brown at small forward and keep Maxey at point guard. LeBron can be effective anywhere, and should be used at power forward or shooting guard.
