Mitchell Moses has come under fire after a tense press conference in which he repeatedly shut down questions about incoming Parramatta teammate Jarome Luai. One veteran journalist labelled the Eels captain’s approach “rude”, questioning why he refused to engage with the media over one of the biggest stories in the NRL.
Speaking ahead of Parramatta’s clash with Penrith, Moses was asked several questions about Luai’s arrival at the Eels in 2027. Rather than discussing the high-profile signing, he repeatedly brushed the topic aside, insisting his focus remained on the current season.

Moses answered multiple questions with similar responses, refusing to expand on what it will be like partnering Luai next season.
“It’s exciting for next year, but that’s next year,” Moses said.
“I’ll say the same thing every time.”
“He’s not here yet.”
While the Eels skipper made it clear he didn’t want to discuss 2027, his blunt approach didn’t impress everyone watching.
Veteran Journalist Calls Out Eels Captain
Speaking on Fox Sports‘ daily news update, respected journalist Peter Badel criticised Moses’ handling of the media session.
Badel described the press conference as a “snore fest” and labelled the captain’s repeated refusal to answer questions as “rude”, arguing there was no reason to continually dismiss legitimate questions about one of Parramatta’s biggest signings in years.
“I don’t know what he’s hiding,” Badel said as he questioned why Moses wouldn’t simply acknowledge the excitement surrounding Luai’s arrival.
Fans Divided Over Moses’ Approach
Some fans have defended Moses, saying his only responsibility is preparing Parramatta for the remainder of the season and that discussion around Luai can wait until he officially joins the club.
Others believe the captain missed an opportunity to embrace the excitement surrounding the future halves pairing, particularly after the duo’s successful State of Origin campaign together for New South Wales.
Focus Remains on the Panthers
Despite the criticism, Moses refused to be distracted from Parramatta’s finals push.
The Eels captain instead praised Penrith superstar Nathan Cleary ahead of their Round 21 clash, describing him as the best player in the game following his State of Origin heroics.
Whether Moses was simply determined to avoid talking about next season or intentionally shutting down the conversation, his frosty press conference has now become a talking point of its own.
