Warriors outlast Wests Tigers in Auckland
The Warriors took down the Wests Tigers 28-16 in the opening clash of Round 21 at Auckland’s Go Media Stadium.
First-half tries to Kurt Capewell, Ed Kosi, and Ali Leiataua saw the Wahs take a 14-0 lead into the sheds before back-to-back tries to Isaiah Papali’i and Charlie Staines saw the visitors roar back into it.
Four-pointers to Addin Fonua-Blake and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak iced it for the Warriors despite Apisai Koroisau bagging a consolation try late.
Fonua-Blake scored a try, ran for 222 metres with five tackle breaks, and made 21 tackles without a miss whilst Roger Tuivasa-Sheck ran for 293 metres with six tackle breaks and a line break.
Koroisau scored a try, assisted on another, and made 32 tackles whilst Papali’i scored a try, ran for 104 metres, and made 30 tackles.
Storm too good for Eels, extend winning streak to 7
It may not have been convincing, but Melbourne finished atop the Eels 32-14 at CommBank Stadium on Friday night for their seventh straight win.
Early tries to Jake Tago and Sean Russell saw the Eels jump out to an 8-6 lead before a Harry Grant four-pointer put the visitors ahead at half-time.
Will Warbrick, Tyran Wishart, and Ryan Papenhuyzen snagged second stanza tries to seal it for the Storm with Russell grabbing a second in the dying stages for the hosts.
Warbrick scored a try and ran for 304 metres with five tackle breaks whilst Papenhuyzen scored a try and ran for 169 metres with six tackle breaks.
Dylan Brown assisted on a try and ran for 189 metres with five tackle breaks whilst Shaun Lane assisted on a try and ran for 145 metres.
Tracey stars as Dogs make statement vs. Broncos
The Bulldogs are one step closer to ending their finals drought having smacked the Broncos 41-16 at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Quick tries to Bronson Xerri, Connor Tracey, and Jeral Skelton saw the Dogs earn an early lead before Reece Walsh and Kotoni Staggs crossed prior to the break to cut the deficit to six.
The second half was all Canterbury with Viliame Kikau and Jacob Kiraz snagging tries as Tracey secured his second and third of the afternoon to seal a big win.
Tracey scored three, assisted on three, and ran for 185 metres with seven tackle breaks whilst Kiraz scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 197 metres with six tackle breaks.
Staggs scored a try and ran for 114 metres whilst Patrick Carrigan ran for 175 metres and made 37 tackles.
Cowboys hold off Sharks for key Townsville win
The Cowboys managed a needed 30-22 win over Cronulla at QCB Stadium on Saturday evening behind a Kyle Feldt hat-trick.
Both sides traded blows throughout the opening forty with Murray Taulagi, Jeremiah Nanai, and Feldt – which came with Blayke Brailey in the sin bin – the try-scorers for the Cowboys and Ronaldo Mulitalo and Kayal Iro for the Sharks.
Braydon Trindall crossed 54 minutes in to drag the visitors back into before Feldt nabbed two more to seal the win for North Queensland.
Feldt scored three and ran for 163 metres whilst Nanai scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 127 metres.
Iro scored a try and ran for 146 metres with seven tackle breaks whilst debutant Liam Ison assisted on a try and ran for 152 metres with nine tackle breaks.
Roosters survive bizarre Manly fightback at Allianz
The Roosters came out on top of the Sea Eagles 34-30 in an eventful affair at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.
The Tricolours took a 28-12 lead into the sheds courtesy of a red-hot opening forty which saw Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i, James Tedesco, Luke Keary, Dominic Young and Victor Radley bag tries.
Failed HIAs for Reuben Garrick and Jason Saab had Manly’s backline in disarray for much of the clash.
The game looked to have been put to bed only for a trio of second-half intercept tries – to Tommy Talau, Clayton Faulalo, and Daly Cherry-Evans – to drag Manly miraculously back into it however their fightback fell short.
Tedesco scored a try, assisted on two others, and ran for 269 metres whilst Dom Young scored a try and ran for 189 metres with seven tackle breaks.
Cherry-Evans scored a try and ran for 179 metres whilst Talau scored a try and ran for 185 metres.
Cleary masterclass leads Panthers past Dragons
Nathan Cleary’s stunning return from injury continued on Sunday afternoon with the Panthers jetting past the Dragons 46-10 in Wollongong.
A dominant opening forty saw the visitors take a 22-4 lead into the sheds behind tries to Casey McLean, Liam Martin, and two to Cleary.
Scott Sorensen and Lindsay Smith joined the party in the second before Cleary grabbed a third and Trent Toelau burrowed over for the first try of his NRL career.
Cleary scored three, assisted on two, and ran for 242 metres whilst Isaah Yeo ran for 186 metres and made 44 tackles.
Titans pull off comeback win over Dolphins
The Titans have won four of their past five having pulled off a come-from-behind 21-14 win over the Dolphins at Suncorp on Sunday.
Quick tries to prop duo Tevita Pangai Jr. and Jesse Bromwich earnt the Dolphins an early lead with Jamayne Isaako sending over a penalty goal to make it 14-0 after 21 minutes.
Brian Kelly crossed just shy of the half to open the visitors’ account with an Alofiana Khan-Pereira double tying things up with a quarter to play.
Klese Haas scored the match-winner 69 minutes in before Kieran Foran slotted a one-pointer to put the cherry on top of a needed Titans win.
Jayden Campbell assisted on three tries and kicked for 167 metres whilst Moeaki Fotuaika ran for 197 metres with eight tackle breaks and made 37 tackles without a miss.
Isaiya Katoa assisted on a pair of tries and kicked for 495 metres whilst Herbie Farnworth ran for 183 metres and made a dozen tackles.
Raiders overcome Souths at GIO in finals boost
The Raiders are a step closer to the postseason having downed the Rabbitohs 32-12 in Canberra on Sunday evening.
The Green Machine started like a house on fire with Jordan Rapana, Xavier Savage, and Sebastian Kris all crossing in the opening 20 minutes before the Rabbitohs wrestled back some momentum with tries to Taane Milne and Cody Walker to cut their deficit to 24-8 heading into the break.
Ata Mariota scored to stretch the Raiders lead on the other side of half-time with a 60th-minute Tallis Duncan the only other points of the encounter as the Raiders breezed to a handy win.
Hudson Young assisted on a try and ran for 207 metres with 10 tackle breaks whilst Rapana scored a try and ran for 110 metres with five tackle breaks.
Jye Gray ran for 250 metres with five tackle breaks whilst Keaon Koloamatangi ran for 243 metres with seven tackle breaks and made 41 tackles.
