According to Daniel Rios of Essentially Sports on Monday, the National Football League has suspended the Arizona Cardinals Director of College Scouting Ryan Gold indefinitely for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. Gold is allegedly accused of “participating in prohibited sports betting and by sharing confidential, non-public information that could be used for sports betting purposes.”
So what is Gold accused of doing? According to the report, Gold allegedly shared information about the Cardinals’ draft selections before the picks were announced. These accusations are serious because fans can now bet on who teams select in the NFL Draft. It is very important that employees on NFL teams keep inside draft information confidential. Gold is also accused of allegedly betting on NFL games and college games.
Gold is now appealing the suspension according to Kari Anderson of Yahoo! Sports. He has stated the allegations are “blatantly false,” and according to Gold’s attorney, it is Gold’s wife who has been actively involved in making bets with friends. Gold’s attorney has also publicly stated the only two people in the Cardinals organization who knew about Arizona’s draft selections. They were owner Michael Bidwill and general manager Monti Ossenfort.
The Cardinals had the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They selected running back Jeremiyah Love of University City, Missouri. Over the last three years, Love has been playing for Notre Dame. The suspension of Gold comes nine months after the NBA suspended Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier for allegedly illegal gambling.
