According to Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post on Sunday, National Football League offensive lineman Terron Armstead of Belleville, Illinois has announced his retirement at the age of 33. The reason for the early retirement was because he needs knee replacement surgery.
Armstead (pictured far right) actually played the entire 2024 NFL regular season despite receiving medical advice not to. This past season, he rarely attended practices, but found a way to play in 15 of the Dolphins’s 17 games.
Armstead had two fumble recoveries in 2024. The first came in a 24-3 Dolphins loss to the Seattle Seahawks on September 22, and the second came in a 32-20 Dolphins loss to the New York Jets on January 5. These were the second and third fumble recoveries in Armstead’s career. The first came in a 26-20 New Orleans Saints loss to the Los Angeles Rams on November 26, 2017. It is interesting that all three of Armstead’s fumble recoveries came in games when his team lost.
In Armstead’s 12-year NFL career, he played nine seasons with the New Orleans Saints from 2013 to 2021. Armstead then played the last three seasons with the Dolphins. Five times Armstead was selected to the Pro Bowl. He was honoured for three straight seasons with the Saints from 2018 to 2020, and two additional seasons with the Dolphins in 2022 and 2023.
Armstead played his college football at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He was with the Golden Lions from 2009 to 2012, and was on the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference first team for three straight years from 2010 to 2012. Armstead was then selected in the third round, 75th overall by the Saints in the 2013 NFL Draft. Armstead is one of two Pro Bowlers to retire in the last week. The other was wide receiver Julio Jones.
