New England Patriots are Super Bowl LIII Champions

In a low-scoring battle, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick did enough to outlast the LA Rams, winning their sixth Super Bowl.

The 2018 NFL Season, remembered for historic offence and high scoring affairs, was capped off by Super Bowl LIII – a defensive, low-scoring game that many have described as “boring”.

In #SuperBoreLIII, the first touchdown didn’t come until the fourth quarter. Both offences struggled early but the difference was that the Patriots had the poise to take control in the important moments.

The most memorable play of the game was a Tom Brady throw to Rob Gronkowski, with the game tied at 3-3 in the fourth quarter. That throw set the Patriots up with first and goal, two yards out from the Rams end zone. The following play, Sony Michel ran in for the touchdown.

A close second, for best play of the game, was a Stephon Gilmore interception. Goff’s lofty pick thwarted a promising Rams drive that could’ve tied the game.

Julian Edelman was a clear standout as an offensive player in a defensive match. The Patriots offence relied on Edelman on most third down plays, and seemingly every time they went to him, he came up big. Edelman finished with 10 catches and 141 yards, and was rightfully awarded Super Bowl MVP.

This was the Patriots’ third straight Super Bowl appearance, and the last two were won by Tom Brady and his offence. The Patriots defence had their biggest performance of the year and deserve credit for this victory.

At the start of the second half, Patriots safety, Patrick Chung went off injured. The defence stepped up in the absence of their veteran defensive anchor. Stephon Gilmore, Dont’a Hightower, and Kyle Van Noy were particularly impactful. Belichick’s defence played physical against Goff and his weapons all game, preventing the young quarterback from settling into the game.

Although their legacies were already secure, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are now undoubtedly the best quarterback and coach the NFL has ever seen. With six Super Bowl’s to their name, the world is reminded that this dynasty is astounding, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
