Nets find their big man in Blake Griffin

Ever since the Brooklyn Nets acquired James Harden from the Houston Rockets in what has been considered as the biggest trade of the NBA season, one question regarding the Nets was if they were still a little small.Recently, the Nets have been struggling defensively, as they gave up a minimum of 100 points in 11 of their 13 games in February, and 13 of their last 15 games overall.

On Sunday, they tried to solve the problem by signing Blake Griffin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The 6’9” power forward now gives Nets head coach Steve Nash multiple options when it comes to creating a lineup. Griffin could play center when DeAndre Jordan needs a rest, or slide into power forward, and then move superstar Kevin Durant to small forward. The Nets already have two sensational guard players in Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

The Nets become Griffin’s third NBA franchise. He has already played with the Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons. The fact that Griffin is with the Nets is no surprise as the Pistons are in a rebuilding stage at 10 wins and 26 losses, the second-worst team in the NBA. In 20 games this season, Griffin is averaging 12.3 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 3.9 assists per game, along with a field goal percentage of .365, a free-throw percentage of .710, and a three-point percentage of .315.

A six-time all-star (five times with the Clippers from 2011 to 2015, and once with the Pistons in 2019), Griffin’s contract was bought out by the Pistons on March 5. Now with Griffin going to the Nets, it will be interesting to see where Andre Drummond ends up. Drummond, who is with the Cleveland Cavaliers, is expected to be moved before the trade  deadline of March 25.
