MERIDIUS SALUTES AGAIN AT ODDS
May 27, 2026
TRAINER Lloyd Kennewell can’t understand why his galloper Meridius is always big odds in his races, but he’s more than happy that’s the case.
Meridius won this third race from his last six starts when he took out the BM100 (1400m) at Sandown Hillside at $20.
“How was he $25; it bedazzles me,” Kennewell said after his win on Saturday.
“He had no luck in The Goodwood. He drew barrier one, which is like drawing 16 and he ran the second fastest last 200m in the race.” Kennewell said.
It continued a trend as he was $20 when he won at Cranbourne first-up last December and $12 when he scored at Caulfield two starts later.
Kennewell said Meridius could contest the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich and the Glasshouse at the Sunshine Coast during the Queensland Winter Racing carnival.
He has identified next year’s Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January next year as his ideal target.
CHAMPION jockey Craig Williams celebrated his 49th birthday in style with a winning double at Sandown Hillside on Pudding and Siriusly Hot.
Those wins took his season’s tally to 46 city winners and extended his lead in the Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership to three over Jamie Mott.
