Matt Gogel of Denver, Colorado has been suspended six months by the PGA Tour according to Vanja Mitic of World Casino News on Thursday. The reason for the suspension is because Gogel allegedly placed bets on PGA Tour events where he was not a participant in 2024 and 2025.
Gogel is 55 years of age, and has been a member of the PGA Tour Champions since 2020. The suspension includes PGA Tour Champions events.
Gogel’s best ever PGA Tour Champions result came this season when he finished second to Jerry Kelly of Madison, Wisconsin at the 2026 British Senior Open at the King’s Course in Gleneagles, Scotland on July 26. Gogel had a second place score of -8 and was two strokes back of Kelly. Gogel was tied for second place with Cameron Percy of Chelsea, Australia and Darren Fichardt of Pretoria, South Africa.
Gogel’s last event on the PGA Tour Champions before his suspension was this past weekend at the Rogers Charity Classic at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Gogel finished tied for 30th place with a score of -8. Gogel was eight strokes back of New Zealand PGA Tour Champions star Steven Alker, who beat South Korea’s Y.E. Yang in a playoff.
Gogel’s suspension will commence on August 23, and will finish on February 22. He is the latest professional sports athlete for being suspended for alleged betting. Gogel follows Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier.
Gogel won once on the PGA Tour. He won Pebble Beach in 2002 with a score of -14. He beat fellow American Pat Perez by three strokes.
