According to Dylan Dethier of golf.com, the LIV Tour may not proceed with the LIV Team Championship at the end of August. German LIV golf star Martin Kaymer believes the chances the event will take place are at 5%.
The event was supposed to take place at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Golf Resort in Detroit. However, due to economic issues, there is a high chance now the tournament could be cancelled.
There are three more LIV events scheduled this year. LIV golfers are competing at the Centurion Club near Hemel Hempstead, England this week. Australia’s Lucas Herbert is continuing his exceptional play as he is the round one leader at -11. It is also interesting who is in second place. It is American Bryson DeChambeau, who is three strokes back at -8.
Herbert and DeChambeau received a lot of media attention at the British Open last weekend. Herbert was the leader after round two, while DeChambeau made headlines for his two-stroke penalty while in the rough on Friday.
After the England stop this week, the LIV golfers will return to the United States with events in New York and Indianapolis in August. According to Kaymer, there could be a team event in Indianapolis.
Kaymer has one of the best resumes of golfers who are playing on the LIV Tour. He is a two-time major champion as he won the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits and the 2014 United States Open at Pinehurst.
One golfer who might fund the LIV Tour moving forward is Jon Rahm. The Spanish star told Golf Channel recently that he has not been approached about investing, but would consider the possibility. When Rahm made the switch from the PGA Tour to the LIV Tour, he signed a deal over $300 million.
