Magpies Fly Into Flag Favouritism
March 27, 2023
Another round, another new AFL premiership favourite with Collingwood now installed as the team to beat with TopSport.
Already there have been three favourites in the past week with Geelong, Melbourne and now Collingwood in that position with TopSport.
They are $5.50 with TopSport after they easily defeated a disappointing Port Adelaide at the MCG to the delight of their raucous fans.
If they can defeat Richmond on Friday night they will tighten up even shorter in the betting.
Underlining just how open the 2023 season is there are seven teams under $10 with TopSport to win the AFL flag.
Last week Melbourne had its turn as favourite but they were outplayed by the Lions and the eventual losing margin of 11 points flattered them in the finish.
Melbourne were without Steven May and Kosiah Pickett which represents two of their top five players.
The Brisbane Lions were impressive but they needed to fight back after their disappointing Round 1 defeat to Port Adelaide.
The season, although two games in, has been full of surprises. Especially with North Melbourne already matching their haul of wins last year having won two games.
The Saints with a number of injuries have still managed to win both of their matches. The Bombers have also regained their mojo with two wins.
The Blues look threatening with Charlie Curnow tearing apart the Cats’ defence which has a number of its usual members missing.
The Bulldogs, who were tipped by media pundits to win the flag, haven’t given a yelp in two games.
Sydney looked sensational thrashing the Hawks and as fifth favourite at $8 looks nice value.
Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver is still Brownlow Medal favourite at $7.75 with TopSport. The big mover has been Collingwood’s second-year player and last year’s Rising Star Nick Daicos who is now $9.25.
